Implementation and Dissemination of the Risk Needs Responsivity Simulation Tool

Background:

The Risk Needs Responsivity Simulation Tool is an assessment tool comprised of three components that, taken together, help probation jurisdictions match individuals on probation to the right type of programming to reduce the risk of recidivism. The first component of the tool, Assess an Individual, uses information about key characteristics of an individual to determine their level of risk for recidivism and the types of programming that have the potential to reduce that risk. The second component of the tool, RNR Program Tool for Adults, assesses programs based on the type of services offered, the content of the program, and their quality. The RNR Program Tool for Adults is a necessary component of the RNR Simulation Tool because it allows for the matching of individuals to specific services in a community. The third component is the Assess the Jurisdiction’s Capacity tool. This tool utilizes data from a jurisdiction’s program tool and individual assessment to provide an aggregate summary of the needs in a community and a jurisdiction’s current capacity for addressing these needs.

Aims:

The objective of this pilot study was to examine the feasibility of the RNR Program Tool and explore strategies to enhance its implementation.
